Excess, is not success!

WE DON'T LIVE TO WORK, BUT WE WORK TO LIVE!

I remember well that during my school days we had a very good chemistry teacher, probably one of the best teachers, I came across those days and the most sought after tuition teacher, who had almost three batches of tuitions every day and all the batches were full! He was an inspiration and role model to most of us, until, one day, when we got to know that he was, no more. What was even more shocking was that, he had committed suicide.

What made him take the extreme step is not quite clear to me, but the one thing clear to me is that, making name, fame and money is definitely not success !

Then what is success? Interesting question isn’t it.

Success at work and success in life are two different things. Being successful at work means that we are able to accomplish the tasks given to us, in the best possible way! Whereas being successful in life means that we are not only successful at work, but also successful in the other dimensions or zones of life.

So, what are the other dimensions or zones of life?

Health, family, social and the spiritual zone are the other four dimensions of life.

Health zone is to have a healthy body and mind, family zone is spending enough time with our family, social zone is to be able to contribute to the society even if it is in a small way, and the spiritual zone is about spending enough time with ourselves and getting to know ourselves better!

To know more about the five zones, please read my article ‘fine tuning life’.

When we are successful in these five zones, we are in a state of ‘joy’ 'flow' and in ‘sync’ with nature. It is also known as being successful both horizontally and vertically! A symbol of stability and sustainability!! A state of fulfilment!!!

The journey towards establishing this state of fulfilment begins with the ability to understand and manage our own, as well as the emotions of others, which is nothing but having a high emotional intelligence.

During his final moments of life, one of the sentences Steve jobs said was "You will realise, your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you fly first or economy class, if your plane goes down - you go down with it... Therefore.. I hope you realise, when you have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, have sing songs with, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth,...That is true happiness!!"

I would like to conclude this blog by going a step deeper and saying that, true success is about realising the natural state present in everyone, the state of fulness, joy, happiness, peace and love. After realising this well, we can now ‘out of happiness’ go out into the world, to make a difference in the lives of others, through any field and make the world a better place to live!
