POSH – Prevention of Sexual harassment of women at Workplace,People get confused
with the title of the law. The first thought is that this law is for
women hence, all the aspects of the ACT must be known to a woman. It is for the
women to understand the pros & cons of these provisions. They must know
every-thing about it i.e. What, When, Where, Whom, How…..
Their male counterparts need not to know the details of this
law. They don’t require any education regarding sexual harassment of women at
work-place, as it is a law for women. Same is the experience when we approach
the organisations for awareness training sessions of the subject law.
Everywhere & every time, the first reaction is “the training is for female
employees and we’ll nominate only female employees for this training.”
But, actually the situation is just opposite. This sexual
harassment of woman by WHOM??? By Male colleagues, vendors etc. So, it is more
important for male employees to know and understand the law relating to sexual
harassment of women at workplace. They must understand:
What action/behaviour will constitute sexual
harassment?
What is the borderline, which should
not be crossed by them?
What will be the consequences, if
they are involve in any offence/ misconduct of sexual harassment to woman?
What if they are dragged into such
issue, without their fault?
Therefore, The said training on Prevention of Sexual
harassment of women at Workplace is more important for male work
force then for females. In the present scenario maximum number of females
at-least know that there is some law against the sexual harassment and they
approaches HR for solution, HR can refer them to Internal Complaints Committee.
But the male members at office don’t have any idea about the law, its
consequences etc which may put them in trouble.
Thus, Pl re-look at the thought and allow your male colleagues
also to undergo the training/ awareness program on POSH.
60% Trainers do not have enough job in hand.
77% Corporates find it difficult to reach to the right Trainers.
Not because of lack of Trainers. But, for the lack of connect in the market.
