Power of positive thinking

How resilient are you?

Resilience is:

  • The ability to bounce back
  • The ability to fully recover from change and stressful situations

Dr. Stephen Hawking, the eminent cosmologist and a brilliant theoretical physicist, not only dazzled the world with his views on the mysteries of our universe, but has sparkled amidst encumbering health issues. In his book– My Brief History, he has explained how the prospect of an early death urged him to focus his thoughts on intellectual breakthroughs.

Given below are a few lines from the book that can inspire us to build our resilience with positive thinking and self belief. These also help us to imbibe the feeling of gratitude for what we have.

"The realization that I had an incurable disease that was likely to kill me in a few years was bit of a shock. How could something like this happen to me? However, while I was in the hospital, I had seen a boy I vaguely knew, die of leukemia in the bed opposite me, and it had not been a pretty sight. Clearly there were people who were worse off than me–at least my condition didn't make me feel sick. Whenever I feel inclined to be sorry for myself, I remember that boy." – Stephen Hawking in My Brief History.
